Committee chair designed by Pierre Jeanneret circa 1950 , relaunched in 2022. Manufactured by Cassina in Italy. The Committee chair is introduced in the original version and in a fresh, more versatile interpretation without armrests to fit seamlessly in the living and dining areas. The structure of the design armchair – available in the historic teak version and in natural oak or oak stained black – contrasts harmoniously with its soft padded parts for comfortable, supported seating. Part of the Hommage à Pierre Jeanneret tribute collection, the dining chair is known for its elegantly bold lines and solid wood structure and the iconic upside-down “V” lateral supports. These product is a tribute to Pierre Jeanneret, a key figure in the realization of Chandigarh. His experience in India lasted until the end of his days in 1967. His close and continuous contact with the local territory led him to combine essential forms with simple materials to create a meeting point between modern European ideals and the traditional Indian spirit. The Chandigarh project is considered Le Corbusier’s most mature work that summarises his poetics, technique and ideology, consistent with his will to research and contribute to the culture of architecture and design. Together, the pair pioneered a new aesthetic vocabulary that placed function and order over embellishment—Jeanneret’s work imbuing the strict geometry of modernism with energetic diagonals and lighter materials like cane and wood. A consistent innovator, he collaborated with Charlotte Perriand on experiments in aluminum and wood, and developed prefabricated housing with Jean Prouvé. In the early 1950s Jeanneret joined his cousin in Chandigarh, India, where they embarked on a massive urban-planning project, laying out the city and designing low-cost buildings and furniture. Though Corbusier abandoned the project halfway through, Jeanneret remained for 15 years as the project’s chief architect. The city remains a masterpiece of the modern vision.
