An unusually attractive example of the work of artist Anders Gittelson (1921-2003), better known by his brush name "GISSON" or … more An unusually attractive example of the work of artist Anders Gittelson (1921-2003), better known by his brush name "GISSON" or "ANDRE GISSON". This oil on canvas, measuring 24" by 20" (33" by 28 1/2" as ornately framed) features a lovely nude seen from the back, fixing her hair as she prepares to enter the water, the dominating hues various shades of blue, all bathed in the white suffused light commonly seen in the artist's works. The painting reminds in some ways of the work of Renoir. Gisson was born in Brooklyn and studied art at Pratt Institute. He served in the US Army in World War II and spent time in Japan, a country with which he became quite enamored, returning there later in life for exhibitions of his work. Commonly thought to be a French painter because of his brush name, Gisson attracted a worldwide following through one man exhibitions on many continents. His still life works, and landscapes are more commonly seen; nudes are quite scarce in his oeuvre. Condition is excellent. See other works by the artist in my shop. less
