*Edward Lane founded the company in 1940 in Altavista, VA. The company started out making cedar chests, and while it still makes cedar chests, it has since expanded to manufacturing furniture for the entire home. Lane now offers furniture for home entertainment, dining rooms, and bedrooms as well as occasional furniture and many reclining pieces. Lane is owned by Furniture Brands International, which owns some of America's other best-known brands, such as Broyhill, Thomasville, and Drexel Heritage. The company is still in business today. United furniture purchased Lane in 2017. less
