Bookend featuring herons in patinated metal on a sea green marble base.
This is a work by Maurice Frécourt (1890-1961) who acquired fame and prestige as soon as he participated in the Salon des Artistes in 1920. Known for translating the imperatives of the Art Deco style into his vision of the animal world, his creations have become classics of stylized animal representation.
These herons are depicted upright, with their beaks tucked into their feathers. With their haughty bearing and meticulously chiseled workmanship, this pair of bookends will delight lovers of the inimitable Art Deco style.
