An unframed oil on canvas painting of a colonial Latin American square surrounded by tile-roofed buildings, a snow-capped volcano in … more An unframed oil on canvas painting of a colonial Latin American square surrounded by tile-roofed buildings, a snow-capped volcano in the center distance, signed at lower right "Quishpe" and dated there 2009. Online research shows that name to be most commonly found in Ecuador, but the artist is J. COSME QUISHPE of Cuzco, contemporary South American artist educated at the Ecole de Cuzco Contemporaine. The work measures 11 3/4" by 15 1/2". The artist true to his style, has added just a bit of artistic license by putting a surrealist train in the sky area, along with some apples (!!!) and some oversized egg-like ovals are placed in the plaza, where they dwarf the figures. There is a small scrape about 1 1/2" at lower left as shown and several other very minor light abrasions. A charming work combining Surrealism with naive art. less
