The … Read more Oil on canvas painting of a Paris street view, signed lower right by listed French artist ROGER DEVERIN (1884-1973). The oil measures 18" by 21 3/4" (23 1/4" by 26 3/4" as framed). Written in pencil on the old backing is the name of the artist and the title: "La Rue du Moulin de Beune Paris". This appears to be a street in central Paris not far from the Seine and the Musee d'Orsay.
The circa late 1950's or early 1960's work is in generally excellent condition. There is a very small less than 1/4" length dig in the paint, in sky, showing as a light spot. Old linen liner is moisture-stained and should be replaced. Deverin's works appear at auction mostly in France. He painted Paris, other parts of France, and occasionally, works depicting other parts of Europe. The painting style takes a little from Utrillo, with the addition of a little Jules Herve and Louis Dali and Therese Darche. See less
