It is very difficult to part with this pair. They were on my grandmother's sideboard my entire life, purchased in the 1950s. They are in outstanding condition in near perfect condition as she was a meticulous individual. There is one small nick on the boy's elbow.
Unique, classy, beautiful addition to any decor.
The Borghese figurines were made by Niepold’s, InCentury, located in Gaithersburg, Maryland, which started production in the early 1900’s. They are made of cast plaster, commonly know as chalkware or plaster of Paris, and painted as if to resemble antiques, often using shading techniques to imitate wear from aging. This is particularly true of this early pair.
Shepherd boy stands approximately 7" tall; 2-7/8" deep and 3-1/2" across the widest part of his oval base.
Girl stands 6-1/2" inches tall; 3-1/8" deep and 4-1/8" across the widest part of her oval base.
