It features a whimsical monkey dressed in Napoleonic era attire with bicorn black hat, holding a basket supported on a tree trunk
Small applied flowers and leaves at the base
All hand painted in cobalt blue underglaze, brown tan and black over
It shows great level of artistry, especially on the hands, feet and face
Incised number 537 and a mark on the base, consisting of the letters EBS for Ernst Bohne & Söhne (Ernst Bohne & Sons)
Ernst Bohne first started porcelain decoration in 1848, installing a kiln for manufacture of porcelain in 1850 in Rudolstadt, Thuringia. After his death in 1856, his sons Gustav, Karl & David took over the company as Ernst Bohne & Sohne. By 1883 David was left as a sole proprietor.
This figurine can be dated to the period between 1856 and 1883

Condition: Good overall. Please see photos.
