Fine quality, nicely weighted hand-pressed glass lowballs with a whimsical fired on Japanese motif consisting of assorted fans and combs with gold gilt accents. Hand pressed glass is created by pouring liquid glass into a steel mould and pressing it with a manual plunger. This particular technique is excellent for any glassware that requires firing on or embossing designs or colors. Many companies during this period made quality glassware to produce elegant glassware entirely by hand. Evidence of the mould is rarely seen on these pieces and they're not traditional examples of moulded glass. Attributed to West Virginia Glass Specialty Co., per my paternal grandmother, whom this set belonged to before being passed onto me. She hailed from West Virginia and was a collector of glass made in West Virginia. 14 oz. capacity per glass; each measures 3¼” x 3¼” 4¼” W/D/H; together the set weighs 2 lbs. 1 oz. In very good pre-owned condition with crystal clear glossy glass with no etching or scratches. Of note, some of the gold gilt has worn and there are a few spots where there is fading and/or wear to the color intensity (see photos 7, 8, 11), none of which impact the beauty and utility of the glasses, as a whole. If you’re seeking to add a whimsical touch to your bar collection or enjoy collecting glass that was made in West Virginia, these cuties might be right for you.
