Robert McKeown (1931-1989) was a great American artist. How do I know? His handcrafted objects are as relevant today as they were when he so beautifully designed them, nearly a half century ago. Offered are a pair of his iconic, tall salt & pepper shakers crafted from a light maple or ash wood with bold, geometric resin inlays. The resin's graphic, crisp lines are both modern and playful. The shakers would look at home on a kitchen table or as sculptures on a living room shelf. Both pieces are signed by the artist and are in wonderful condition with only minor wear.
McKeown was a graduate of the California College of Arts and Crafts and was an expert color theorist. He won much acclaim for his innovative resin and metal inlays, which he placed in an array of utilitarian objects. He focused on experimenting with color and line. His work was exhibited worldwide, including the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pennsylvania, the American Craft Museum in New York and the Yamaha Corporation American Craft Exhibit (1979-1980) in Japan. He was also a representative to the World Crafts CouncilConference in Vienna in 1980. Robert McKeown's work is prized and becoming increasingly more sought after. Tragically, the availability of his work is limited due to his untimely death in 1989, at the age of 58. less
