This style of chair is known as the "official's hat chair" because the projections over the rear stiles resemble the knobs on the black hats once worn by high-ranking administrators in Ming Dynasty.(官帽椅) These chairs are high back and handcrafted and structured with wooden pegs and tenon structure, which is the very traditional craftsmanship for furniture making in ancient China. Intricate carvings of "flying dragon" and "deer under plum tree" design decorate the back splat of the chairs. The front panels underneath the seats are uniquely carved with a lot of details. Made of Elm Wood. Excellent condition. Excellent condition. Original patina and wear. (The photos here show all the sides of the chairs)
