This beautiful Chinese carpet from the Art Deco period is distinguished by its elegance and unusual style. The wool is shiny and silky, spun with greater thickness than normal Chinese wool.
This type of carpet was born around the 20s on the initiative of Walter Nichols, an American merchant who, having moved to China, opened in 1924 a carpet factory, designed for the American market, which while maintaining some classic Chinese decorations, were characterized by their decidedly innovative style. These rugs are born from the encounter between a decidedly Chinese style and the new art of furniture, so much in vogue in the West.
The decoration of our specimen is characterized by 4 vases at the corners, two with compositions of flowers and two that emit incense. The large central field is deliberately left empty to be the background to the furniture. The border is formed with a rich garland of flowers seamlessly. The colors are particularly delicate and suitable for a romantic setting.
