Pearlware pottery decorated with hand painted floral motifs in mulberry enamel
Thin walled, very fine English earthenware made as a substitution of the more expensive Chinese Export porcelain
Cream ware was created about 1750 by the potters of Staffordshire, England, who refined the materials and techniques of slat-glazed earthenware towards a finer, thinner, whiter body with a brilliant glassy lead glaze. Josiah Wedgwood, who perfected the ware and supplied Queen Charlotte and Catherine the Great, used the trade name Queen's ware. Around 1779 he was able to lighten the cream color to a bluish white by using cobalt in the glaze, which sold under the name pearl ware.
Hand written mark consisting of two brush stokes and a dot in addition to a hand scratched underglaze character, which seems to be either a capital F or number 7 (hard to catch it with the camera)
Additional research may be needed for identification of the pottery
With approximately more than 150 potteries is North Staffordshire in the late 1700's, as well as some other large potting centers in England, it is hard to attribute it to a manufacturer.
It may just be a phony Chinese character
Circa mid/second half of the 18th century, Britain
