In this unique Wabi-Sabi piece, the degraded is subtracted via fire, revealing oceanic forms.

This dynamic aesthetic is achieved via Yakisugi (or Shou-sugi-ban), the traditional Japanese charring technique of wood preservation, whereby layers of decayed wood are burned off. The piece is subsequently burnished to a soft, safe perfection -- sensual to the hand and eye.

Finished with traditional polymerized Tung Oil to achieve a deep, durable semi-luster.
