This is a beautiful, … Read more Vintage oil on canvas of a ghostly herd of deer portrayed in gold, ambers and greys. This is a beautiful, surreal and haunting composition by well known Texas artist Crystol Spillars (1932-2022). The deer are vaguely outlined and standing in what appears to be a morning mist, a sight not uncommon in the area of Texas where the artist resided.

Spillars was a gifted and versatile painter trained at the Glassell School of Fine Art in Houston, Texas. She painted a wide variety of subject matter including pure abstraction, multicultural portraiture, figurative art landscapes and waterscapes. Her last works were influenced by her love of abstract expressionism.

It was difficult to truly represent the richness of color in this painting through photography as it tends to morph depending on light conditions. The colors and brushstrokes are subtle and have amazing depth. See less
