Sergio Valenzuela “Valenz” is a contemporary Guatemalan artist who tells stories with everyday objects, primarily expressing them with graphite and acrylic on canvas. His artworks prominently feature elements such as chairs, ladders, and beds. These recognizable structures serve as a way for the artist to signify the opportunities, growth and dreams we all carry as individuals.
This 30-inch high by 28-inch wide yellow and grey artwork is wired and ready to hang. The sides of this original artwork are painted as a continuation of the front. It does not require framing. Valenz was born in Guatemala in 1970. He graduated from Universidad Galileo de Guatemala with a major in Communications with a concentration in Education. He is a graphic designer, creative director, and publicist, as well as a professor, teaching university courses on creativity, advertising, and graphic design at his alma mater.
His first group show was at the Bienal de Arte Paiz, Guatemala City, in 1992. Since that time Valenz has been featured in over eighty group shows and thirty solo exhibitions in South America and around the world. Among numerous recognitions and awards, he was selected as the winner of the “Young Artist” award in 2005 and granted a scholarship to study at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts, Valen. His works are exhibited in the French Allegiance of Guatemala, Forma Museum of El Salvador, and private collections in Guatemala, Central America, Europe, Mexico, and the United States of America.
