Frank Matranga received his Master's degree in ceramics from USC where he studied with Vivika and Otto Heino and F. Carlton Ball. He worked for Raul Coronel and with Hal Fromhold in the 1960's. His large stoneware murals can be seen at several public and corporate buildings in Southern California.
In 1977, Matranga spent five months teaching potters in Japan and, he himself, learning from Shoji Hamada. Two years later, Matranga was rewarded with a series of one-man shows in Japan. The Japanese culture remained a major influence on his work throughout his career. less
