Exceptional and attractive centerpiece … more 20Th Century, Amazing Mid Century Modern "Sommerso" Seguso Style Murano Art Glass Table Centerpiece. Italy 1960.
Exceptional and attractive centerpiece in colored Murano glass; the shape, full of soft curves and rounded tips, fascinates us for its incomparable and elegant plasticity and lightness; was made with the technique of "submerged" glass, a process used by the Murano furnaces in the production of artistic glass which consists in combining, hot, different shades of color by immersing the mouth-blown glass with a special barrel by a master glassmaker in crucibles containing different colors, for our centerpiece cobalt oxide was used for the blue color and copper oxide for the green color; at this point the master was able to make the massive block of glass delicate, almost vaporous, by twisting it, working it with pliers and shaping it by hand to give it the desired shape; then the object was made entirely by hand and without the use of molds or models, thus creating a unique piece, just like a work of art. This coloring method is called "fire colors", and represents the best quality of glass obtainable in an artistic furnace: the "fire" process guarantees an infinite duration of the color, which remains stable, unalterable, particularly vivid, homogeneous and intense. This centerpiece was created between 1960 and 1964 with unparalleled experience and craftsmanship by a great Murano master in a magical, fascinating and artistic place: an artisan furnace in Murano. However, whoever was the creator of it, the creation of this centerpiece confirms that the Venetian attitude, celebrated over the centuries, for glass processing, is an alchemical combination of the material elaborated by artisan intelligence with happy artistic intuitions; Since ancient times, Venetian artisans have protected and handed down the art of glass, always giving us precious and unique works of art that fascinate us for their beauty. The item is in excellent condition. For all our shipments we use special packaging materials (wooden crates, polystyrene, etc.) for maximum protection and safety of the items. less
