This 18th century attractive hand-colored engraving is from “Histoire Naturelle du Règne Végéta,” circa 1774-1797. Good antique condition with slight wear around the edges and some staining commensurate with age.
Pierre-Joseph Buchoz or Buc'hoz (1731-1807) was born in Metz, France. At the age of 28, he was appointed physician to the King of Poland, but left his post to pursue his interest in botany and art. He traveled throughout his native Lorraine and published a 13-volume Histoire Naturelle of the province. Teaching botany as well, he was demonstrator at the Collège Royal des Médecins de Nancy. Author of many works of botany he also studied animals (in particular birds) and minerals.

Comes unframed as a loose flat paper lightly secured to a thin black backing board with corner mounts, and inside a clear plastic envelope. less
