This is a classic Philadelphia dish top design with a gorgeous cut of Mahogany used for the top and a small, stepped arch at the top of the knees. The Centennial was celebrated nation wide by proud Americans but the Centennial International Exhibition of 1876 was hosted in Philadelphia and was the first Worlds Fair held in the United States. The event lasted about 6 months and attracted 10,000,000 visitors. The fair would showcase new advances in technology like the typewriter & sewing machine but would also highlight architecture, agriculture, machinery, etc.. Large halls were constructed to display art & furnishings and the reinvigorated appreciation of 18th century designs created a demand for “traditional” furniture that was popular the century before. The table has a well defined dish top and is in great condition with our only notes being an old restoration to the top and one of the legs. When the top is flipped up like in our gallery image the table measures 28 1/2” wide x 20” deep x 43” tall. When the top is flipped down the table is 27 1/2” tall. less
