The thinly potted porcelain bowl has been glazed with bluish tint white base and then painted with under glaze cobalt and fired. A second firing was done for the iron red and gilt. The design is very detailed and shows a bird flying and seeing another bird inside a house. The house is in a garden with plantains and peonies. The cavetto is decorated with alternating panels of bamboo and pines.

The shallow rounded foot is unglazed. The base is glazed. The rim has a line of iron brown for strength.

MEASUREMENTS

8 7/8” (22.5 cm) diameter x 1 ½” (3.8 cm) deep. Weighs 13.4 oz (375 g)

CONDITION

There is one longer crack that extends from the rim to the foot rim, and a smaller hairline from the rim on the opposite side. There are no other breaks, repairs, or chips. There are a few tiny rim glaze frits. There are also customary kiln flaws such as black spots, grit on the back, and pin hole reserves. The glazes are bright and fresh considering the age.
