A pastellist uses a pastel stick consisting of powdered pigment combined with a binder. He is best known for his pastels and watercolors that merge impressionism into realism. De Scevola created an extensive body of work including scenes of alcoves, landscapes, flowers, and society portraits and he is also know as one of the inventors of military camouflage (See Wikpedia for a more extensive discussion on the artist). The painting is signed Guirand Victor De Scevola on the top right. The pastel on paper is 6.25" x 9.0" and the original gilt frame size is 15" x 18.25". Glass was later added to the painting to protect the delicate nature of the pastel. The original label from Borghi & Co. in New York was reattached to the back. less
