The underside … more This vintage all purpose chair by Heywood Wakefield is made of solid wood on a heavy metal frame. The underside of the seat displays a paper label with the Heywood Wakefield name and eagle insignia. Paper labels were used as the maker's mark from 1935 until they were replaced with the dark wood-burn eagle insignia in 1949. This is a rare find for a paper label to have survived over seventy years.
It is a comfortable and sturdy chair to sit in, with a warm, rich patina that has developed overtime. The metal frame is painted brown, and is well matched to the seat and back of the chair. There are minor imperfections that are commensurate with the chair's age. Also, at some point, the seat had a glue repair. This can be seen in the pictures.
The simplicity and quality of the chair would complement the aesthetics of any room, and is in excellent vintage condition. less
