Mr Salt and Mrs Pepper Shakers by David Gil for Bennington Pottery Vermont

Functional sculptural pieces of art representing a mid century modern male and female form.
The shakers have small holes in the eyes for dispensing the salt and pepper and larger holes on top for filling the shakers. They feature matte and semi-gloss black and white glazes over gray unglazed clay, with minimal decoration and "Mrs. Salt and Mr. Pepper" handwritten on top. The shakers measure about 5” high x 3” diameter and are in very good vintage condition with minor scuffs and marks here and there. The corks appear original and visually show well, but if you were going to use these mini sculptures for shakers, you’d likely want to replace the corks. One piece is signed on the bottom as shown and dates these to the 1950s.
