The pair were produced in Shandong, Northern China, from 1900 from elm wood, with square seat panels set within thick outer frames and finished with a dark wood stain and varnish, highlighting the attractive wood grain.
They are in a classical Chinese style, with 'waisted' seats, horse hoof feet and s-shaped stretchers set high between the legs. Other interesting features are the various tenon ends visible on the seat frames and legs - an indication of the intricate joinery used to produce the stools, without the requirement of using nails.
Sold as a pair, the price shown is for both stools. less
