- This is a great handmade cross stitch table topper (on a larger table placed on the diagonal at the center) … more This is a great handmade cross stitch table topper (on a larger table placed on the diagonal at the center) or a small table tablecloth for tea/parlour tables. The original artist used a transfer template which was/is super common even back to the early 1900's. The patterns were typically mail-ordered from ads in popular periodicals like "Needlecraft Magazine" (a great source of reference info), and you can see the blue line of the transfer pattern (its colorfast and does not go away with washing) underneath the cross stitch. I have a pile of those magazines around here somewhere back to 1911. It was interesting to see the change in advertising from 1929 to 1930. less
