Direct from France, an elegant antique French carved library table or "bureau plat" desk, commonly referred to as a “dolphin" table, so called for the ornately carved "dolphin" feet. A large size for this style, making it perfect for a writing desk or sofa table…wonderfully versatile for use in today's home!!
Incredible detailed carving, captivating features that include ornate, relief carved lion masks on the canted corners with large, carved gothic drop finials and Black Forest carvings below. Fancy carved French gadrooning on the wide frieze.
Dual legs on each side, and hand carved acanthus bulbous “cup and cover” shape to the legs. Renaissance flair, with detailed, carved mythical “dolphin” sea creature feet. Large carved stretcher provides stability and support.
Carved on all sides, perfect for placement anywhere in a room because there's not a "back side". Solid oak with a rich finish, well built by craftsmen of the period, c1880.
