This is just a great original piece. I was recently at an auction of some wonderful Cape Ann paintings. I have often admired Paul George paintings as I see them in collections around New England. I was lucky enough to just acquire 2 of them that I am offering this week. For those not familiar with the artist, I have included his biography below. This is one of his most classic images. A large view of waves crashing through Bass Rocks in Gloucester Massachusetts. A large gouache and watercolor on paper measuring 21 x 28 inches. Signed lower left. Painting is in perfect as painted condition. Stunning white cap waves contrasting against the vibrant brown and reds of the rocks and the blue ocean and sky in the distance. Just a beautiful work. Archival matte and gold frame are the perfect compliment and presentation. Ready to hang. Verso has the artist's biography from his website with a picture of what looks like this painting. Just the complete package. Frame measures 28 3/4 x 35 3/4 inches. If you collect Paul George or Cape Ann paintings, make sure you check my store. A great chance to pick up some of the artist's work for a fraction of the gallery pricing.
For those not familiar with the artist his biography from the Mystic Seaport Museum reads: "New England artist Paul George was born in Cambridge, MA. He has a BS from Northeastern University, Boston, MA. He studied at the Museum of Fine Arts School in Boston, is a Signature Member of the National Watercolor Society and the Cape Cod, North Shore, New England Watercolor Society and former Vice President of the Rockport Art Association. He has been painting and teaching both watercolor and oils for over 20 years. Paul has won more than 70 awards for his work including the Winsor & Newton Award for Excellence at the National Watercolor Society, also the American Artist Professional League Award at the Academic Artist Show, Award of Excellence 2009 and the Thomas Hoyne Award, 2016 in the International Marine Art Exhibition at the Maritime Gallery at Mystic Seaport and the Gold and Bronze medals at the New England Watercolor Society Show.
He published an article in Watercolor Magazine, winter 2000, International Artist Magazine 2005 and has been teaching watercolor workshops since 1996. “Painting Cape Ann, Monhegan Island, and Workshops for International Artist Magazine in Europe”. He released two videos “Painting White Roses and Painting Rocks and Surf”. His work can be seen at the George Gallery, Gloucester, MA and the Maritime Gallery at Mystic Seaport, Mystic, CT, and he has been juried into and participated in Plein-Air events in Richmond, Annapolis, Frederick, Easton and Castine, ME." less
