The Mt. Pleasant pattern made its debut in 1926 and was discontinued in 1934 and was made in numerous colors including this green uranium glass. L.E. Smith began producing colored glass in the mid 1920s; pink, green, amber, yellow, amethyst and cobalt were being made as early as 1926. The motif(s) for Mt. Pleasant vary from piece-to-piece but the most common characteristic on all pieces with an edge or rim is a scallop pattern that alternates one large scallop then 2 small points. This beauty, under a UV black light, emits a vivid fluorescent glow and under normal light, the color is a beautiful crisp pale green (see photos). Uranium glass is any glass that has uranium in it and can be yellow or green in color. Vaseline glass is a subset of Uranium glass that has uranium in it but is only yellow in color. The difference between the two is simple, iron oxide is added and this is what gives this jug its lovely green color. Crafted from moulded pressed glass with two distinct seams on the underside opposite the handles. It measures 5¾” x 7” x 2 ½” 1” W/D/H (width is taken from handle tip-to-handle tip); weight 11 oz. In excellent condition with random “straws” and occlusions original to the manufacturer as a result of manufacturing process used at the time, which are so indiscernible and do not affect its beauty or utility. For a collector of uranium glass this should be a must have or the perfect gift for someone who is!
