Stunning Meissen-style wall plaque with center cherub playing a mandolin, surrounded by a field of pastel-colored Schneeballen flowers. Plaque has holes in rim on back for hanging by wire but can also be displayed on a plate stand. On underside in hand-painted lettering it is marked "ARDALT DRESDEN NOVE ITALY." Plaque is 14” inches in diameter and projects from the wall about 3 inches to the front of the central cherub. Careful inspection of all the little flowers shows minor damage. Mandolin arm has been repaired. Overall, very good condition.

Vintage Ardalt company was an American importer of tableware and decorative china that emerged after WWII. It first appeared as ARDALT Inc. Corp., New York in 1945 and continued into the early 1960s. The principal countries of manufacture were Japan and Italy. The Italian wares were particularly fine and Mille Fiori and Fiori Bianco represent the peak of these. They involved much laborious hand modeling of the applied decoration as well as intricate and multiple mold work and "luting" (gluing with clay slip) of all the pieces together It dates to the 1950s.
