Charming inlaid wood painting of a lakeside Orthodox church with its distinctive onion dome and its reflection in the nearby water. Our research and an online translation of the label en verso suggests that the subject is the Russian Orthodox Church of the Intercession which is situated at the confluence of the Nerl and Klyazma rivers. An important religiious and Unesco World Heritage Site, the structure is believed to have been constructed in the mid-1100's and has remained relatively unchanged during that time.
The artist who created the piece is identified as "Vasilevsky" but our efforts to research him/her have not turned up reliable results.
The piece has a comprehensive label en verso (see photo) and is ready to hang from an integral hole on the back.
Dimensions: overall, 6"W x 8.125"H; image, 3.25"W x 4.5"H.
