At one time, this fabulously large amber tinted glass bowl served as a fruit bowl in our former home. It is large and quite deep with a moody bold look-and-feel that allows it to serve as an eye-catching centerpiece bowl on any tabletop or countertop in any modern home. I purchased it from an artist vendor at the Kansas City Art Fair almost 30 years ago and it is my understanding that this bowl is made from slumped glass. Glass slumping is a process that uses gravity and heat from a kiln to shape sheet glass using a mold into endless shapes and textures. It is thick and heavy, weighing 9 lbs. Because of its irregular shape, the smooth finished jagged edge diameter measures anywhere from 19” to 20”; 4½” high; 8” base; interior bowl width 11” x 3” depth. It is a tinted amber glass which looks light to dark depending on lighting with aubergine undertones when in direct sunlight (see photos). There are two surfaces on the outer rim, smooth on top, while the underside has a smooth textured finish. The inner rim on the underside has a pebbled texture which gives it a dramatic look. In excellent condition with minimal use wear evident; a few surface scratches on the bottom (see photo 11) which are mostly indiscernible and do not affect the beauty or utility of this gorgeous bowl. Uniquely made and truly a one-of-a-kind piece looking for a great new home, your perhaps?
