Congdon, printed by Bruder Rosenbaum in Vienna Austria in 1969 for The Trustees of The Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation on the occasion of the loan exhibition " Roy Lichtenstein ".
Roy Lichtenstein ( 1923 - 1997 ) The American born Pop artist of a Jewish background, is one of the most well known and loved worldwide Contemporary artists. During the 1960's along with Andy Warhol among others, he became a leading figure n the new Pop Art Movement. His work defined the premise of Pop Art through parody. inspired by the comic strip, Lichtenstein produced precise compositions often in a tongue in cheek manner. The artworks of Lichtenstein are included in the collections of many of the world's most prestigious museums.
This exhibition catalogue art book surveys and defines the lively twists of the artist's career from 1960 to 1969. Departing from his earlier vintage American subjects, he proclaimed the comic strip to be the theme most expressive of the style of the new decade. The book's author Dianne Waldman assesses Lichtenstein's achievements as a highly complex and visual intellectual statement in his ability to produce memorable imagery and to discover the psychological reactions we have to a specific subject matter. Lichtenstein presents a new vision based on his understanding of Modern Art.
The rare out of print 1st edition Pop Art exhibition art book measures 7 1/4" W X 10 1/4" H X 3/8" D, with 114 pages, featuring 46 black & white, and 12 full color lithograph print illustrations.
