A rare collectible antique Delft faience presentier double dish with handle. This 18th-Century presentier (which is translated to present or to offer) is hand molded and hand painted with a delicate polychrome floral geometric pattern and border. We have found 2 other dishes like this, see last photo. It was probably used for serving oil and vinegar or sweetmeats at the end of the meal. Sweetmeats were small shaped pieces of confectionery consisting chiefly of sugar or chocolate with flavoring or filling.
Delft faience is a tin glazed earthenware that was made to imitate and compete with the Chinese ceramics coming to the West via the East India Company in the 18th - 19th centuries. These wares were high coveted then and are have become very collectible today less
