The hardcover book with navy blue linen covered boards, embossed cover and spine titles, and dust jacket is published by Rizzoli New York, printed in Japan in 1987, authored by Gerald Nordland.
Richard Diebenkorn ( 1922 - 1993 ) was an American painter whose work is associated with Abstract Expressionism and The Bay Area Figurative Movement of the 1950's and 1960's. His later works were instrumental to his achievement of worldwide acclaim. His artworks were influenced by other important Modern artists including Clyfford Still, Willem De Kooning, Arshile Gorky and Henri Matisse. Described as one of the premier American painters of The Postwar Era, Diebenkorn's deeply lyrical Abstractions evoked the shimmering light and wide open spaces of California where he spent most of his entire life. His artworks are included in the collections of many of the world's most prestigious museums.
This first full scale monograph book presents a rich selection of the artist's oeuvre, much of which had never been reproduced before in color. reminiscent of Matisse in color and Mondrian in geometry, these are some of the most remarkable accomplishments of Twentieth Century Art. Along with hundreds of beautiful reproductions of the artist's work, critic Gerald Nordland provides a thoughtful and informative study of Diebenkorn's life and career, a comprehensive exhibition history, and selected biography.
