Settee has a wicker-wrapped bentwood frame with original metal stabilizers and wood stretcher--still solid after all these years. Three original wood-framed coil spring cushions, recovered in the 70s. No maker's mark, however the settee's construction and style is seen in chairs and rockers with attached original Lloyd Loom stickers. Currently a mid-century avocado green, the settee can be painted any color.

Frame is in excellent condition, solid and without damage. There is separation of woven fibers in the back and on one arm and paint wear throughout, a result of age and use. The slip covers are somewhat dingy after 50 years, in spite of laundering and there is wear on the bottom of one cushions . A coat of paint and new covers would do wonders for this piece!

Measures approximately 66" w x 31 1/2" h x 25" d. Legs measure 62" w x 22" d. Seat height without cushions is 13" h x 20 or so" d. Cushions are 19 1/2" d x 4" h. Arm height is approximately 24 1/2" at front. Please see pictures for detail and condition.

Lloyd Loom was invented by an American, Marshall Burns Lloyd, in 1917. He came up with an idea for an innovative woven material that would offer the benefits of wicker and rattan, without any of the drawbacks. The process involves kraft paper is twisted around wire and woven into a strong fabric. The sheets of fabric are cut and attached to bentwood, or rattan frames, and finished with spray paint in any colour. The final product is completely unidentifiable as paper and creates a material which is strong, hard-wearing and smooth — qualities perfect for woven furniture. In 1921, Lloyd sold the British rights to the Lusty & Sons in the UK and their designs rocketed in popularity. More than 10 million pieces had been sold in the US and the UK by 1940. Vintage Lloyd Loom/Lusty pieces are highly collectible today. less
