Her First Name is Catharina. Under her Name is the Latin Word "Anno" or Year. Cannot Make Out the Last Name, but can Probably be Deciphered. The Date, Though Very Difficult to Make Out, Looking at it from Just the Right Angle, it is 1858. The Strap Hinges are Made of Hand Forged Iron as Well as the Ring Swinging Handles Attached on Both Ends. There are 2 Heavy Brass Ring Lifts on the Front of the Domed Lid. Corners have Dovetailed Joints. Candle Storage Compartment on Top Left Side with 2 Drawers Underneath, and a Shelf Underneath Them. Notice Many of the Round Pegs are Raised above the Surface. Often an Indication that this is the Original Finish as Well as Characteristic of Age. Over Time Wood Shrinks, but the Wooden Pegs do Not and that is Why they are Raised. The locking mechanism that was mounted on the front inside just below the top rim is missing. The left side domed lid strap hinge is missing the top 3 screws, but is still functional and could be replaced with period screws. There are a couple of separations on the the trunk floor with one running the entire length. Drawer pulls are missing on both drawers under the candle storage box. The nuts holding the brass lid lifts look like they have been replaced. The paint on the left side with the bride's name (Catharina) and Anno (year) are legible. On the right side front her last name is hard to make out as well as the year underneath it. Looking at the date from a certain angle, though, makes it apparent that it is 1858. The 5 is the hardest number to make out. This is a really beautiful piece and quite large and spaces. less
