Crispin Gonzalez

Ceramicist Crispin Gonzalez (1936-2017) and another beautiful work from AMOCA's permanent collection. Gonzalez found his passion for ceramics as a student of Jerry Rothman at Cal State Fullerton in the early 1960s and cemented his study at Claremont Graduate School under the guidance of Henry Takemoto, Paul Soldner, and Peter Voulkos. After graduation in 1968, he taught at Cal State LA, USC, and Pitzer before finding a home at Chaffey College in 1971. Gonzalez taught at ceramics at Chaffey for 33 years, developing classes in kiln building and glazes techniques. His work has been featured in several well-known shows and collections, beginning with the 24th Ceramic National Exhibition at the Everson Museum of Art, Syracuse in 1966, for which he received a Purchase award, and through some 65 subsequent exhibitions, including a 1973 International Pottery Design Competition in Nagoya, Japan and the Scripps Annual Invitational twice. His work is in several museum and private collections, including the Fred Maher collection at Scripps College, the Sam Maloof collection, and AMOCA. less
