19th century antique woven red and green Kashmir horizontal stripes decorative pillow with green flat green silk ribbon trim and hunter green carriage cloth fabric backing.
In shades of brown, green, red and soft green. Handcrafted decorative pillow made with an antique textile fragment from a Kashmir shawl. Kashmir handmade shawls’ are textiles handcrafted by artisans with fine wool and sometimes silk threads and they are usually pieced together as patch work. They belong to the Indo-Persian style. Their original use was to mark every rite of passage in the Indian society; these shawls were status symbols in the Persian/Indian culture. The technique used by artisans was to weave the silk and/or wool threads and in many other textiles, their technique included needle embroidery. Their design motifs include medallions in the body and multiple borders and their floral designs evoke the architectural decorations in stone carvings as well as building decorations. These Kashmir antique shawls display a rich garden aesthetic: every square inch, a swirling, scrolling fantasy. The flower and water-pot motif is also present, but has been even further stylized almost beyond recognition with curving spiraling racemes associated with the so-called rich garden aesthetics. The paisley in the textile decoration refers to the word boteh which is a Persian word meaning shrub or flowering bush. Condensed from the book: Shawls of the East, From Kerman to Kashmir by Parviz Nemati.
These handmade throw pillow are ideal for the holidays on a sofa, chair or bed. Antique decorative pillow handcrafted and designed in the USA exclusively by the Antique Textiles Galleries Home Collection. Closure by stitch (no zipper) with custom-made pillow insert.
