One of the largest Thai wood carvings we have seen. A real statement piece.
Standing at over 34" tall this early 20th. Century sculpture portrays Thai musicians (orchestra) on two levels accompanying the deity above, an Aspara on a horse. Each side of the sculpture has rising kranok 'flames'. The exemplar and inspiration of Kranok pattern is the flame - the symbol of passion.
Lightly gilded with a background of brick red - the gold colour is not bright, more an old gold shade. Deeply carved from one single piece of wood, possibly teak, this took a long time to make. It is stable and has been well looked after. No chips visible.
This carving would look fantastic correctly lit and placed on a console, table or shelf - especially in an entryway or hallway. It could possibly be hung on a wall if supported correctly.
This is a very unusual carving and a great decorator piece for a home, hotel or office. Not to be missed!
