The plate is a typical example of the well-known Imari Porcelain. The medallion in the center is decorated with an attractive peony in iron-red and foliage in various shades of blue and green on a pure white background, a characteristic of Arita fine porcelain. This is an excellent example of a Japanese porcelain charger made for the export market, An intricate traditional Arita floral motif decorates this piece with an attractive geometric pattern in blue underglaze encircles the rim. Decorated with an under-glaze blue, then hand painted over-glaze in a wide palette of colors including a rich cobalt blue, red, orange and green with rich gilding throughout.
