*Viking Glass grew out of its predecessor, New Martinsville Glass Company, which was established in 1900 in West Virginia by Mark Johnson and George Matheny. In 1944 New Martinsville Glass Co. was restructured and named the Viking Glass Co. The company quickly became known as a manufacturer of American decorative glass products and for its use of color. It embodied the Mid-century Modern aesthetic and was one of the most prolific producers of American glass until it closed its doors in 1984. See less
