This late 1800s needlepoint fire screen is absolutely beautiful and has such a warm rich color and great details. The butterfly hinges are so decorative and hold the shelf; it may be placed up or down. The fun part of this piece is that on the back is old newspaper, “The Standard“ Tuesday, April 6, 1875.
These were used when the fireplace was just a little too hot and you wanted a little reprieve while sitting next to the fire. This one has a shelf for your cocktail or a pair of candlesticks. The height to the top of the center carving is 38 inches. less
