Model 6581 Table Lamp By Kaiser Idell Circa 1930s Adjustable steel shade and arm - Cast steel base - On/Off switch on the base - Original grey paint, Likely Wehrmacht - Designed by Christian Dell - Produced by Kaiser Idell, Neheim - Model 6581 - German ~ 1930s - 27cm wide x 47 cm tall x 18cm deep Christian Dell Dell was born in Offenbach am Main in Hesse. From 1907-11 he completed the silver forging studies at the academy. In 1912-13 he studied at the Saxon college of arts and crafts in Weimar. From 1922-25 he worked as a foreman of the metal workshop at the Bauhaus in Weimar. Beginning in 1926 Dell sketched lights and as an early industrial designer and pioneer of plastic design, Dell used bakelite and amino plastics as materials for his works for Molitor-Zweckleuchten in 1929-30. In 1926 Christian Dell, the former master of the metal workshop at the Weimar Bauhaus, was appointed director of the newly established metalwork course at the Frankfurt school of art, a post he held until his dismissal by the Nazis in 1933. In Frankfurt, as well as teaching and practising as a silversmith he launched his career as a lighting designer. Among his earliest and most successful models were the Polo Popular (1929) and Rondella (1927/1928) desk lamps. Both were manufactured first by the Rondella factory at Oberursel and then later by Bunte & Remmler in Frankfurt Am Main.
