In the Gilded Age ice cream was pure luxury and even more luxurious were the serving pieces. This American set stamped N. Harding Pure Coin is by the Newell Harding Company in Boston, The set includes 12 spoons and the serving scoop all with a gold gilding to protect the silver from corrosive foods. I love it when there is a date, a history, and a story to wonder about...and this one has it..it was gifted on Jan 20, 1870 as noted on the scoop. Coin silver (90% silver)has become quite collectible and is exactly as described, silver from coins, and many examples of American silver in museums are coin silver. Plan a Gilded Age summer dinner with an ice cream dessert or just make every day a bit more special.
The scoop is 9.5" long and the spoons are 6" long. 370 g.
