Both pieces were acquired directly from the Ritts Co. Los Angeles store as a set in the 1970s.

Herbert and Shirley Ritts (parents of photographer Herb Ritts), had a furniture company that was started in the 1950s. Shirley was an interior decorator, and their company specialized in rattan furniture before selling high-end acrylics in the 1970s under the Astrolite brand (TM 1969).
