Rare to find, beautifully sculpted chair in a stunning combination of Kagan ebony walnut with creamy white Holly Hunt European leather. Made from the finest European hides, this Holly Hunt leather showcases a small grain embossed using a natural, leather grain inspired plate, then
hand-tipped to create a beautifully rich multi tonal look and complex details.
With a floating seat perched atop its hand-carved walnut frame, the Sculpted Pull Up Chair captures the essential elements synonymous with early Kagan designs. An upholstered backrest framed in wood is balanced against a curved, floating seat. The intricate frame creates enticing views through its negative spaces, while the upholstery areas encourage an interplay of materials.
Vladimir Kagan pioneered the enduring voice of midcentury modern design. A designer of not simply furniture but what he called “vessels to hold the human body.” Kagan’s designs radiate his vitality and passion for discovery. Born in Worms, Germany in 1927, he emigrated to the U.S. at the age of 11, just before the dawn of WWII. From his father’s repeated admonishment “Ehre das Handwerk!” (“Honor the handcraft!”), Vladimir inherited an appreciation of artisan skill which, combined with his innovative design sensibility, was key to his success. less
