Many of these early American design motifs carry over elements with European roots, yet focus greatly on the bounties of agriculture and floral beauty found in the Colonies. Many of the more popular designs carry continuous vines paneling off floral sprays and bouquets, some of which are shown to be tied with ribbons, while others are covered fields with interconnected vinery and highly detailed scrolling tendrils and leaves. Each example renders a quaint and simplistic focus on the beauty of blossoms and rhythmic qualities with alternating repetition and fluidity, paired with regularity of trellis or lattice style organization. Chainstitch is a weaving method that enables a great deal of detailing in patterns, and is especially so for weavings of curvilinear design. There is added dynamic imparted by the spiraling technique in the single colored areas which adds a subtle nuance to the shades of wool based on reflection of light. Colors and shades include: Dark chocolate brown, dusty mauve, dusty powder blue, ivory, pale olive green, and more. Condition notes: Weave across in original condition.
