This is a stunning Original Antique CHROMOLITHOGRAPH by French artist, Jean Engelmann. This method of printing produced a print of unusual quality of color and detail and Engelmann's father, Godefrey Engelmann, was considered the master of this method. Christie's sold an Engelmann (born 1788) for well over $5000. Jean was one of his sons who took up the family business by opening his own printing company in Paris, where he expanded on his father's technique using a range of five colors: blue, red, gold, green, and black.
As you can see, this is an excellent example of that style. The detail and color are absolutely beautiful - unlike that of any kind other printing technique. It is a graphic printing of the Pendants in the Palace of Sultans and it is just lovely. Would look exquisite framed!
