Folk art painting executed on old wood boards, possibly barn siding or cedar roof shake shingles, by Southern folk artist, George Zupp (b. 1968). Signed and dated Chicken George, 2009 at lower left, and also on verso, including Redford TX. The whimsical image features a log cabin with a billy goat tied up outside but the rope inexplicably travels in and out windows to anchor to a tree stump on the far side of the shack.
The construction of the piece itself adds to its outsider art quality. It is cobbled together from 3 pieces of reclaimed tapered construction board creating a deliberately uneven surface panel. The panel is mounted onto a 1.75" deep wooden box, and does not require further framing. It is ready to hang with the attached hanger. We note some yellowing of the varnish finish mostly within the sky areas, adding to the naive quality of the piece. less
